| Those hearty enough to qualify for the Yukon Quest will have already demonstrated their ability to compete in long distance races, with completion of 200 and 300 mile races being a prerequisite to Yukon Quest entry. Participants will endure temperatures that can fall to below -40 degrees Fahrenheit and winds of 100 miles per hour or more. Using dogs that were born and bred in these harsh conditions from the days of the Gold rush in the 1800's 50 Mushers compete against the elements, the wilderness, the terrain and each other in one of the hardest races ever run by Man or Dog. | |
